They are very high quality large format books with lots of full page photographs. Plus Jan Still is like the Stephen King of Luger collecting. The detail, research and material just don't get any better than that, with all due respect to the other very excellent writers on the subject.
Once his books sold out, they jumped 2-3 times in price simply due to scarcity. Most serious luger collectors would never think of selling theirs so you just don't see many for sale and therefore demand a premium.
I am always looking for a copy of Third Reich Lugers for a great price as I don't collect "Natzi" guns but am missing that one from my book collection. I was sick a few months ago to miss one on an auction site that had been sitting there 3 days for a buy it now price less than the cover price.
