The net is where you will find the upper ten percentile of prices--the values I transmitted to you are accurate for the US in general but you must attend shows or respond to ads. In the past year I have seen a couple of 1936 lugers that were not "roached" out at prices well within the value range I identified. An 85-90% finish gun is worth $600-750 and the matching mag adds $150-200. The low condition is what hurts the luger. If it was 95% or better, price can skyrocket and still find a buyer.


One week ago a friend here in Colorado sold a 98% 1938 with matching mag, holster, extra mag for $1200. Keep looking or pay the high price but 1936 is a common date luger and will appear eventually either in better condition or at a lower price. Of course, there are occasionally a few lugers at the Denver show that are way up in price (recently a 1917 Erfurt with holster was offered for over $1000 though it was a mismatch reblued gun). The seller was trolling for novices and to buy things that come through the show. The luger was not seriously for sale.


Try offering a lower price. If seller wants to sell it, he should welcome offers.
