One of the Mauser experts will likely chime in soon, but I believe that whoever you spoke to and showed your 42 Mauser is incorrect.

I am pretty sure that by 1942, black grips were pretty standard at Mauser...even for Police guns and the FXO mags were coming out with black bottoms and were unnumbered, as aluminum was getting to be in short supply.

Please post some good clear focus photos of your Luger here on the forum. The experts can tell you if what you have is what left the factory...
