Re: ebay item. holster, different, unusual!
Speaking of unusual holsters--how many of you have ever seen a Walther Model 6 hardshell? I saw one this weekend that still had the Walther mag fittings in the lid. The owner was the grandson of the GI who captured it.
At the Colo Springs gun show this weekend I was asked by someone to estimate the value of his luger. It was a 1917 Erfurt with a replaced sear bar but otherwise decent used condition. His grandfather captured it near Remagen in WW2 and brought it back. The local "luger expert" told him he should ensure it for around $550 including the very early ca1908 luger holster it was in. This was the last straw for me with the local "luger expert" as I told the owner that the holster was not a luger holster but the incredibly rare Walther Model 6 holster. Everyone in Colorado is directed to the expert with their lugers and MOST of the advice and information he gives out is wrong. For example:
Your luger holster is an early one made in 1908 (Walther Model 6 holster). The expert was absolutely certain and ignored correct information from others.
WD40 will restore your luger holster. (and other goo's that have no business being put on collectible leather goods but might be appropriate for work gloves or rain boots)
Shower with a dyed luger holster will restore its original brown color--then saddle soap it.
You should reblue that luger because it has a spot of finish wear on it. It is so nice you should blue it up to mint.
Beware the ridiculous advice some "experts" have no hesitation sharing at gun shows. If you ask what evidence or source supports their advice, it is always "heard it from gun show guy", "I do it and it works for me (whatever that means)", the Smithsonian does it (or other bogus claim they were fed or are making up).
Don't get me started about the guy who used super-hard steel to polish his 1910 Train luger and took the finish off the grip strap. He said the old luger experts taught him that trick. Took a beautiful 95% luger down to an ugly gun in about fifteen minutes.
