It was the 14. Saxon Infantry Regiment with station in Leisnig and Wurzen. With its number 179 (there were only 182 Regiments in 1914) it was one of the latest which were founded in 1897.
It was part of the 24. Infantry Division during the Great War and saw action on the Western front (only). It has a great war history!
By the way: It seems that all (and only) Saxon Lugers got unit stamps from 1910 until 1918. There are not many which survived and they are rare.
