Tom, we also found some traces of this in the Mauser archives.

I think the main reason for distinguishing between the 9mm and the .30 luger versions of (essentially the same) magazine was to avoid discussions with certain countries where 9mm as a bullet, and also the magazines are prohibited. When you mark them as .30 luger magazines, they suddenly stop being 9mm magazines officially
