Hi Jim, The white high-light does not affect the value. It is not permanent and can be removed with a toothbrush and solvent, like Breakfree or Hoppe's #9. Some collectors high-light the markings so that they will show up more clearly in photos, others just like the way it looks. Regards, Norm
