If your Luger is marked S/42 on the toggle, it was produced at the Mauser factory in Oberndorf Germany...

The year of production should be stamped above the chamber (1939).

To determine approximately which month of the year it was made, we will need to know the serial number, including the letter under the serial number on the front of the frame above the trigger guard.
