My guess would be that in 1918, both DWM and Erfurt were under a lot of pressure to produce pistols for the troops and many shortcuts were probably allowed. we all knwo the finish di deteriorate as the war progressed and machining shortcuts in non critical areas could produce a few more pistols per day. I plan to loolk at my pistols today and see if any of them have this type cut.
