no books that I know of Chris, but you have come to the right place to ask questions. I would not let the grips keep me from buying a quality Luger, especially a Mauser made luger. 1936 was the height of their quality cycle before they started taking shortcuts to production due to the strains of the war effort.
Post photos of the gun you are interested in buying along with the asking price and those here who know will guide you on whether or not it is a good value.
