Default New member, gun pics

I recently inherited a 1938 S/42 that my wife's grandfather got during WWII. I don't know the history behind the gun yet. The grandfather is 90 and he gave it to my mother-in-law to give to me. She is going to see him sometime this month so I hope I can get some history on it.

I would like some information on the gun based on the markings that are on it. I attached some pictures to help out. I looked at several websites that talked about the markings but was a little overwhelmed by all the different variations. From what I found it is a military issue gun not commercial. from the markings is there a way to tell what type of military unit or division it was issued to?

The serial number on it is 9991 and all the parts match. 91 all over it. I only have the gun and one magazine. Serial number on the magazine does not match.

If someone would give me a ballpark value based on the apparent condition I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for any info,
Steve
