Curly,
I had the same thought. This gun has been refinished and I thought that perhaps it was in a fire. After some reflection I decided that this was an unlikely conclusion: the damage seems to me to be less than what I would expect for such an event and the back of the frame appears to be stronger at that point than the front - I would expect the front grip strap to be deformed if a round cooked off.
