The C-96 was in a really good shape, the grips looked mint, the blueing excellent, maybe reblued.
I really enjoy to shoot my P 38, too. It is one of the last civilian (whole steel) P 38 produced. It has a special anniversary marking: "1886-1986, 100 Jahre Walther" I am not sure about the exact spelling because I don' t have the gun here in MD. It shoots very accurate, much better than a regular WW2 P-38 or a post war P-1.
