I believe that they were also used in U-boats, WW2, etc, but that's a bit over my pay grade here. Better let the scholars answer that one. It is certain that WW1 pistols did frequently see action in WW2.
One thing I will say that IMHO the WW1 NAvy is about the perfect balance of barrel length and true early-Luger craftsmanship.
I have a mismatched one that is a dream to shoot.
