but the damage is far beyond reasonable efforts to restore it. restoration would cost more than buying a similar one in good shape.

Brendan, Ron & Charlie are right on both counts...When you whittle on a stick it's hard to put the shavings back on. When you don't even have the shavings...it is what it is.
