Dear Experts

If a matching imperial military luger was also used in WWII, would it usually bear some sort of later markings in addition to its initial imperial proofs? Asked the other way around, if a matching 1916 DWM luger bears no markings beyond the normal imperial markings, is it likely that it was not used by the Wehrmacht?
