Yes, this is exactly what happened to Germany after World War I too, but for different reasons. Here is a picture of a Ten Million Mark banknote dated August 22, 1923. It is only printed on one side.

As collectors we know what was going on with our Lugers at this time.

During this time of hyperinflation in Germany it would literally take a wheel barrow full of such paper money to simply buy a loaf of bread.
