Default Newbie Adventure

I had a nice afternoon, examining the nicest Luger I've handled so far. A 1942 Police Banner. The owner says he bought it off the guy who captured it from an army officer.

Let's see if I remember everything: A 1942 Mauser Banner, Police. sn 7009y. w/ sear safety. All numbers match down to the firing pin and the magazine. Finish, from comparing to blue book, in the 95-98% range. Some rubbing around the L side of muzzle and side plate, but very slight. Rt. receiver E/L , Left receiver, sn , no P.08 0n frame. Barrel no marks other than 8,83. proof 48 in" Lugers at Random. E/N But can't make out the 'N'. On L breech block too. None on front sight.

Almost mint barrel, Excellent grips w/ no sn inside.

Anomalies: No sn on barrel, the takedown lever was strawed.

Magazine: Extruded, blued. AL base w/rivet. Sn 7009y, and a 2. Marks: fxo, P.08 and a faint E /?35. but could be a ?55.

Lots of dried up oil. Things were stiff coming apart

First time I've seen a sear safety. Interesting. But how do you put it back together without scratching the finish. We did it, but it took three hands.

Owner is not interested in selling at this time. But I think maybe in the $4,000 range?
