Measuring is easy...

Degrease and de-oil the surfaces with alcohol.

Then use a good black magic marker to color the engagement surface of the sear, and / or firing pin. Assemble and dry fire a few times. Then disassemble and measure the depth of engagement by checking to see how much marker has been scratched on each piece by the two surfaces rubbing together.
