The first clue is the the type of frame. This is a post 1908 style frame with no grip safety. The next thing is the date on the barrel. This indicates the pistol was a military issue in the first world war. Next, the lack of a small notch at the front of the reciever ahead of the date indicates this military P08 started out with a 4" barrel. The DWM on the toggle indicates it came out of the Deutch Waffen Munitions factory.

SOme where in it's life it has been skillfully and extensively customized. It resembles a luger carbine but the customizer decided to add his own touches rather than attempt a fake. I think it is a fine looking and interesting shooter with some connection to the great war.
