"The German Army at Passchendaele" by Sheldon
A while back my friend, and fellow unit mark addict George Anderson "keoki7" sent me a book entitled "The German Army at Passchendaele" by Jack Sheldon.
It is a very well written account of a little known, but very vicious and bloody battle against the British Forces at Flanders in 1917. Filled with first hand accounts by officers from the numerous German Regiments and their respective Companies. It gives you the feeling and mental images of what war in the trenches was truly like. It was pure Hell.
If you are an Imperial Unit Mark history nut? You need to read this book. There are 100 or more Regiments and / or Units mentioned, with detailed observations and first hand accounts from the men who served in them.
There are several accounts of the battle from Officers and men of 164th Infantry Regt. The LP.08 in my photo, was there. It's marked to 164.R.1.1. 164th Regiment 1st Company weapon #1. After reading this book, I have a new appreciation for this particular piece.
This book is outstanding...
