This appears to be a replacement sideplate and possibly even a reproduction sideplate and will require more fitting. Either the sideplate tab is too thick to go under the takedown lever (will have to be thinned down) or the takedown lever is bent toward the frame and won't allow the sideplate lever to go under it... (you can bend it SLIGHTLY up...to try and allow the lever to fit over the sideplate tab.)

The sideplate tab should be a tight but slide fit under the locking takedown lever.
