Best thing to do is to have the carbine in hand, and then ask speciific questions about it.
Your statements are a bit vague, so kind a hard to give you specifics, but there are several members here who know carbines very well.
As for books, see the New Collectors area dn read the thread on Book Recommnedations. There are no carbine specific books out there; and it is an easy way to get burnt as they are expensive....
