Blue Book of Gun Values? I guess it tried to setup a virtual system -- if gun A sold in public auction for $400, according to production, year, factory of origin, number of fans, etc, etc, there must be a magic formula to decide "fair" price of gun Z. Let's assume the book value being fair so we can continue, BB has one big problem -- the structure only counts *original* gun blue. A gun losts its BB value after it's refinished. On market, of course refnished gun still has some value because it still fulfills some needs.

For shooting purpose, those postwar Mauser could serve very well. It's not 1917, but most of them are factory and it's hard to find one less than 98%. .... and it's around 1k.
