Well, DWM buying anything british can be forgotton.
DWM was part of Loewe and Loewe laid the foundations for standardization in Germany, eventually leading to the now-famous DIN standards.
Loewe was inspired by American engineering and probably just reverted to the standards in use in the USA, which were basically British standards.
