My supposition about how the gun got to Japan in 1946... knowing several members of the 1946 Occupation forces in Japan... they were transplanted from the European theater when the war in Europe was over, and most likely brought their war booty with them and then promptly lost them in games of chance... (not cofirmed, but I would be willing to wager on it  )
