What is "it"?
It was kept in a wooden box with a 1917 Colt revolver...in the basement. It's still in the wooden box, but at least it's now under his bed. I cleaned and oiled all his guns and confiscated some moldy old ammo (in original boxes) from the 50s.
As I said, I've guessed that it's a DMW commercial, but exactly what "model" and year of manufacture, I haven't a clue.
My Grandmother asked me the value of his guns, including "the German gun", for insurance purposes. I told her the best insurance is to keep them oiled and out of the damp basement. I couldn't give an objective value or even guess at a market price. Asking me how much my Grandfather's gun is worth is like asking "How much is your best dog worth?". I have no idea and I could only answer that if the situation absolutely demanded it. I had a cat worth $2000 once.
Anyway, surely someone can satisfy my curiosity about this pistol.
Thanks
Matt
