Following Gerben's lead (thanks...!!!), I looked at photos in "The Dutch Luger" book more closely with a magnifying glass...on page 206 as an example :
These fellows were Dutch marines in 1935 in the German Saar territory...
I feel MUCH better about my $ 49 win on eBay...
