Gerben, some good points..Pete. Nice looking lanyard. Really hard to pin down it's origin or even if it's a pistol lanyard or if it was issue or commercial.
It almost has to be commercial. The standard Dutch issue was a flat type. I am not aware if the Swiss issued a lanyard at all. You have seen probably more Swiss photo's than anyone else..ever see a period Swiss wearing a lanyard?
That's pretty much what I have depended on over the years..Period photo's.
There are some photographs (also in the Dutch Luger) of Dutch navy staff wearing this style of braided leather lanyard.
Gerben, Are these Pistol lanyards?
Often lanyards were used for many other purposes.
As Gerben says...this is made in the style purported to be the Portugese Lanyard. I have never substantiated that the Portugese lanyard actually exists , was issued or where it might have been made.
