Default Re: German WW-I Unit History

Hi Ad.!

many thanks for your kind email. I'm not sure which of the two sites you are

referring to: the Imperial German or the Austro-Hungarian army site?

As far as I am aware there is no single published regimental history but the

history of the regiment is contained as an appendix to the regimental

history of the 19th Oldenburg Dragoons: "Das Oldenburgische

Dragoner-Regiment Nr.19 im Weltkriege" by Franz D¶ring von Gottberg,

Stalling; Oldenburg 1937. The regiment was formed at mobilisation in August

1914 and based on a cadre of the regular 19th Oldenburg Dragoon Regiment

with a staff and three squadrons numbered 1. - 3. and attached to

Generalleutnant von Bahrfeldt's 19th Reserve-Division as the divisional

cavalry regiment. 19th Reserve-Division was a part of X. Reserve-Korps

(General der Infanterie von Kirchbach) of Generaloberst von B¼low's 2nd

Army. The regiment remained with the 19th Reserve-Division until 1916 when

the regimental staff was disbanded and only the 3rd squadron remained in the

division. 1st squadron went to the 208th Infantry Division and 2nd squadron

to the 25th Landwehr-Division. The regiment was uniformed as per the 19th

Oldenburg Dragoon regiment but without that regiment's cipher plus a green

"R" on the helmet cover.

I hope this is of some help.

Best regards

Glenn
