Eric, I did indeed recieve your excellent photo's and the screw in section is clearly in evidence. I could be wrong of course but I do not believe an original type rod was ever made with this screw on shaft feature. It is inherantly weak and prone to breakage. A very bad idea an completely unnecessary.
At any rate..I would not go to any great lengths to repair this one but instead, put my money towards aquiring an original.
