byf, Lugers were made for almost 50 years, so there are many types. Obviously by your screen name, you are most familiar with WW2 types. (note; technically, there is no such thing as "black widow", it is a made up name )

My knowledge, which is far from perfect on magazines;

1. Wood bottom magazines, made by DWM pre-WW1, during WW2 and Erfurt made only during WW1
2. Wood bottom magazines, made by DWM during the Weimar era
3. Schmeisser made magazines, made for Simson, (maybe DWM), and also Mauser. Note; I am used to weimar police and nazi era police, they are nickle plated or cadium and usually aluminum based after the late 1920s (I can't remember the date, but they transitioned from wood based to aluminum based officially)
4. I believe that Mauser made their own magazines, these will always be found with aluminum bases
5. bakelite bottom magazines, made during the nazi era

1a. Commericial magazines did not have numbers on their wood bases
2a. Military had numbers stamped, both wood and aluminum based
3a. Some bakelites willl be found with numbers on the base, this is infrequently found, as most were not stamped

Ed

NOTE: CORRECTIONS TO MY LIST ABOVE IS OKAY
