I also assumed the reddish colour came from something that went 'wrong' during production, perhaps due to a startup of a new bulk ..who knows..
I find the early serial number to be kinda neat, still, all Lugers are unique in their own way. I didn't pay more for it to be that low in #, it came as little bonus
