Gary,

BKIW is Berlin Karlsr¼he Industrie-Werke (spelling may be off). It was the name DWM used in the latter 1920s before Luger production was transferred to Mauser in the spring of 1930.

There has been much new research on these pistols since Lugers at Random was published. The most recent by Joop van deKant indicates that about 4000 completed pistols ranging in serial numbers from 6550u to 550v, most in the white, were transferred from BKIW to Mauser where they were finished and sold.

Yours predates the transfer and was definitely part of the sale in 1929 by BKIW to the Landj¤gerei.
