It's that one in a million chance you may have a failure of the weapon and pieces go every which way that motivates me to wear them and there have been occasions with handguns and long arms I have felt debris hit me in the face, I think from the muzzle blast. Got hit in the glasses once too from ejected shells from the shooter next to me.

I even wear em when mowing the lawn, they saved me when a rock kicked out hit a tree and bounced back and hit me in the glasses nearly knocking them off saving serious or blinding injury, and I was on a riding mower too. So at least wear them while mowing as I think it is a more dangerous activity than shooting
