Thanks for your reply. I'm not surprised. It didn't look very impressive to me but I thought I should at least check. I'll pass on your insight. My friend will appreciate knowing more about the history, even if it's not very unique.

He got a few pistols and a rifle passed on from his brother. There are two Mausers in the collection as well. One 1897 bolt action rifle and pistol (unknown date) that is obviously German but also has Japanese insignia inscribed on the barrel. They both look well used and not collectors pieces unless their specific models are unique. Let me know if you want pictures of those and IĆ¢??ll post them up when I can.
