Not clear to me if you mean the first round fed from the mag, or the first round after the first round fired...

regardless, if there is no real "jam" then the recoil spring or main spring could be the culprit. ...but before I change it, I would make sure the gun is real clean and properly lubricated...

If the new mag is the only one you have, I would try others too... it may be that the one you have is just not a good mate to the gun.
