Default Guten Tag! The German articles Der, Die & Das roughly

equate to Male, Female and Neuter gender of the objects to which the noun relates... This is not a pratice in the American English language.

The trick of using them correctly in German grammatical structure is knowing what objects are "he's", "she's" and "it's"

In this case Dieter is correct (duh!) ...witness the upper right corner of your screen > "die selbstladenpistole"

We do have sayings that are similar in English. When looking at a friend's luger you might say "She's a beauty" - applying feminine characteristics to an otherwise inanimate object... (wow that made my head hurt!)

regards from a student (but NOT a scholar) of the German language from 30+ years ago, - and that concludes our lesson for today...

wiedersehen!

John
