I agree with you John, doubt this is the best position.. if not for scaring the enemy, thinking that some kind of nasty chemical field-ration-dinner weapon will be unleashed. Or shocking them, and reveal their position when laughing!

If the guy was dead.. why not lie the rifle on the chest, would reduce the shooters siluette as well
Perhaps it would work as a close range defend, eating some shotgun pellets just before todays pea dinner
