John, I can tell you a lot about your grandfathers luger!

It is a early mauser made in the early 1930's for the nazi's, but right at the end of the Weimar period. it has a "sear" safety added after 1932, sear safety's were only installed on "police" lugers.

It also appears to have the magazine safety, which was installed at the same time frame, but was found not to work correctly and were almost universally removed in 1937.

the blank receiver (no date) was correct for these guns. The toggle being blank, is commonly refered to as a "sneak", in the mistaken belief by collectors that the germans were hiding rearmenent from the allies, but that is likely untrue. it is better guessed that the toggle was not marked due to the switch over between DWM and Mauser...

The holster is a commercial one, or more likely a 1911A1 holster used for the luger, it is likely not one that was worn when the owner had the luger.

Value, to me is about $900-$1200.

Does the magazine match?

Do you have any paperwork that "allowed" your grandfather to bring it back (this is not needed, it was just needed to legally bring it back, this was not always done or the paperwork has been lost. This would have been done after the war).
