He was always a tool gatherer, and every now and then he would see a good deal and buy it. He had one of those huge drill presses, the big lathe and all the tools that go with it. Welding, etc. all in the basement.
He worked on old gas engines, single cylender ones, I have one of them in the garage as I "speak".
