Mark, as James said, unless marked on the gun, no, there is no way to tell from a serial number. A soldiers book might have the luger description in it, but unless it came with the luger, there is no chance in the world to find one with your exact serial number, suffix combination...

A full description for legal purposes of a luger is, as an example;

1917 DWM, sn 3456d

As every year they made many lugers and also made them sometimes with the same suffix...
