Luger auction madness
Hi Folks,
Check this auction out: http://www.forthehunt.com/auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=1387918 This is a fine example of excitement over good common sense. I thought I was crazy to be bidding more than about $400, but there really are folks out there even crazier than I am! Best regards, Kyrie Luger auction madness |
Kyrie, I have seen this madness before!
![]() I usually look at this website from time-to-time and see this quite often. This particular seller thinks quite highly of the pistols he auctions (always a higher reserve than I am willing to pay). When I saw this one, it took me much less that a second to decide I wasn't even interested in seeing the outcome. Oh well, to each his own!!

Kyrie, I had the chance to stop in on Collectors Arm's
(the seller) showroom while in Houston and while they had a couple of nice pieces, I felt most all of their Lugers were overpriced. The most unusual guns I thought they had were a consecutive serial numbered pair... I don't remember the model for sure but I think they were 1906 Portugese models.
They had a custom 16.5" carbine that they identify as pre-WW1... but why would someone use that length barrel pre-WW1 before the National Firearms Act of 1934 defined short barreled rifles? When you look at the photos it appears to be very front heavy as far as balance goes. It used a rear toggle from a Navy, and the frame may indeed have been pre-WW1, but I am leery of the authenticity of the age of the entire unit. Looks Nice but the price was $2750! Here is the URL for their current web page listing of Lugers. http://www.collectorsfirearms.com/modernhandguns.htm |

John,
Glad to hear you had a chance to get by Collectors in Houston. I've been meaning to when I get to Houston, but I havent made it yet. I talked to them about the carbine you mentioned. I have to guess it was assembled after 1934. I was tempted but it seemed like a little much for a made up gun. Thanks for the report from Houston. Was the reunion good? Buddy |
A very moving time for me Buddy, I will drop you an email... (EOM)
