Rick,

I am sizing down jacketed .312 bullets to .309 for the 30 L with no accuracy problems. I have not tried any cast bullets in this caliber yet.

Hugh how good accuracy do you get on your downsized .30 bullets?

I use silicon spray for a lubricant, run them thru a .311, then .310, then .309 die. They end up actually measuring .3095. I am mainly doing this to 60 gr Speer Gold Dot & Hornady XTP's, but have also done some 85 gr XTP's. Have not shot a lot of paper with them, just enough to sight in.

As for accuracy, I can hit an Armadillo at 50 yds, which is an animal about the size of a large rabbit. The effects of these lighter, faster hollowpoints out of a six inch bbl is spectacular!

I started out using an antique Lyman Lubrisizer, but it was really tough. Especially the XTP's, which seem to have a harder jacket than the Gold Dots. I got a RCBS tool and it is much more robust with better leverage, and I have been able to go straight to the .309 die with it. However, I think that doing it in stages probably distorts the bullet less, so have reverted to the three stage process.
