Unit Number Pw. B
I just got my first Luger with Pw. B on grip strap. Otherwise it is DWM, 1920, 9 m/m, 4 digit s/n matching, same s/n on both mags, holster dated 1941. ID of unit number and any other info much appreciated. Thanks, Robert

Robert:
The markings "Pw.B." are the markings for the Bavarian Police Defense Force, or, Polizeiwehr Bayern. According to Goertz, German Small Arms Markings, the force was organized in 1920 and disbanded shortly thereafter as it was judged by the Allies to be a paramilitay organization founded to circumvent the provisions of the Versailles treat. |

Pw.B. signifies Polizeiwehr Bayern (Bavarian Police Defense force). A para-military Bavarian police organization that existed only a short time after World War I. It was disbanded after the allies determined it to be a paramilitary organization in violation of the provisions of the 1919 Treaty of Versailles. Your Luger appears to be manufactured (and dated)in 1920. Any additional data as to serial number, magazine markings etc. would most sppreciated. Jan |
Many thanks for ID info. I had assumed the P was polizei and was guessing the B was Berlin. Good to know it is for Bayern. Of possible further interest I have known about this pistol for many years and finally got it. Thanks agn. Robert
