Police Unit Marked

I just picked up a DWM 1921 dated police Luger with the sear safety. It is unit marked S.W.I. 1244 on the grip strap. Having no knowledge about unit markings, can someone tell me about this gun?

Pete,

Very interesting! What is your serial number? Mine is 937b all matching (with no cracked grip) the mag has a wooden bottom and not numbered to the gun. (1355)

Hello Mark,

My apologies...if you thought this one was mine. This one is for sale with the folk sat FGS and I thought that was the one you purchased...

Here is their ad descibing the luger :

1921 DWM POLICE S/N 9xxb ALL MATCHING EXCEPT MAGAZINE. UNIT MARKED S.WI 1244. VERY NICE 1921......925.00

Let us know if this is the same gun or not. Sometimes a private piece can be on consignment sale with one of the dealers and the owner then sells it private party at the same time...maybe this is/was the situation with this luger...(???)

If you don't get an ID on your unit markings, you might try Jan Still web site...Jeff Knoll and Klaus Schad hang out their and they would be the guys that might have an answer if none comes from one of our LF members...I dunno... :D

Pete... <img border="0" alt="[typing]" title="" src="graemlins/yltype.gif" />

Wiemar police "schutzpolizie Wiesbaden district 1 weapon 1244"...would not be Luger #1244 in district but weapon #...hope this helps.

Pete,

I did get it from FGS but Chris must have put better grips on it and changed the mag to a wooden based one for me. I thought it looked familiar!

Thanks for the information!

Both mysteries solved...nice police luger !

Cannot tell...is the magazine safety device in place ? Is it intact or has it been clipped ?

Here is a close up of one of my two Weimar police lugers to illustrate what a "clipped" magazine safety looks like :

Pete,

The mag safety has been removed. Thanks for the photo.

Mark, that is the "normal" event that happened, finding them intact is very rare.
