Police Luger

I picked up an interesting police luger today. The front grip strap is marked VPS The rear grip strap is marked WW2114. It was once a navy.C/M proofs on left side. It is a long frame with the grip safty removed. Just wondering what the unit marks are'?

Russ,

I'm not sure what the "VPS" is, but the "WW 2114"
is an Imperal Navy marking meaning "Werft Wilhelmshaven" or The Wilhelmshaven Arsenal weapon Nr. 2114. Wilhelmshaven was the small arms arsenal attached to the North Sea Naval Station.

There are Navy marking that have yet to be identified perhaps the "VPS" falls into that category. Maybe someone else can shed some light on the markings.

Can you post any photos of the gun ?

Jim

When you post your photos, I would also recommend that you make mention of their presence in the Navy Luger forum... I am sure those guys who frequent that forum might want to see the gun as well...

The E/N & E/J proofs on the barrel indicate that the barrel was replaced during or after 1939 by a commercial firm. The recessing of the receiver in the frame looks like a short receiver has been fit to a long frame. An interesting pistol that should be of interest to Police pistol collectors.

Ed
Thanks for posting the pics.

Doubs
The receiver has been cut down to accept a short frame barrel.
