Machine Gun company of the 28th Regiment, pistol number 23

It's difficult to tell if the original marking of 28.G.M.G.23. was a mistake or not but the first "G" has obviously been over-stamped with an "R". 28.R.M.G.23. should read "28th Infantry Regiment, Machine Gun Company, weapon No. 23."
If the original over-stamped "G" wasn't a mistake, then I'd have to look at Noll's book to see what it designated. However, it ended up with the 28th Infantry Regiment. |
Tom & Doubs,
THANKS for the help :) Mark ( kidvett ) |
kidvett, What an unusual marking! Doubs is absolutely correct on the 28 Infantery Regiment Machine Gun company. I do disagree on one thing. Looks to me the armorer picked-up the wrong punch and stamped a "G" frirst then overstamped the "R". If you look at the overstamped letter and compare it to the "G" you will see it is one and the same. w/r Jeff Noll http://home.earthlink.net/~nopubl
