What does this unit marking mean??
Just bought another unit-marked Mauser C96/1916 in 9mm.
It has a full length barrel, 1920-stamp, #82024 and unit-marking "S.L.Pol.4964". What does this unit-marking mean?? Here are two pictures: http://www.blinkskudd.net/Album/imag...istol/c962.jpg http://www.blinkskudd.net/Album/imag...istol/c963.jpg Thanks! |
It is Schupo Lunberg, waffen 4964.

Jan Still has identified this (his best guess) as "Schutspolizei Luneburg weapon 4964" and has referenced Gortz pg 93. If there is any additional information I would like to hear it. Thanks....Tom hope all is well with your sons!

i have no idea, what could be the meaning, but "schutzpolizei l¼neburg" is surely wrong:
1) would mean, that the name of the town is betweet "schutz" and "polizei". this is not used in german this way 2) l¼neburg is a rather small town/district citizen in 1933 (town and district) 75000 would mean, that about 6% of this number would be policemen. regards klaus |
