68th infantry 3rd company?

Yesterday some folks on this site helped me figure out the unit markings on my luger. My next question is does anyone know the history of this outfit? It is marked on a 1918 erfurt. Any comments or suggestions on resources would be great. Id like to find out where this gun went or any good battles it attended. Thanx!

Hi Smitty
The 68th Infantry Regiment was part of the 16th Infantry Division. Known as the "Iron Division" And was made up almost entirely of men from the Rhineland.
1914 Ardennes-Marne, Suffered heavy losses against the French.
1914-1915 Champagne, withstood heavy attacks.
1915 Artois, Lost Heavily
1916 Somme, Heavy Losses
1916 Berry Au Bac, sent back to Somme
1916 Glacia, Russian front. Nov 1916 to May 1917
1917 Flanders, Withstood heavy British attack
Your Luger issued>>>>>?
1918 Ypres, fought until near starvation.Heavy Losses.
1918 Third battle of the Somme,1500 taken prisoner by British.
REF: Histories of 251 Divisions of the German Army/1914-1918.
REF:The Imperial German Regimental Marking by
Jeff Noll.
Interesting is'nt it? They were almost constantly in action. With a few short rests now and then.
Lots of history behind your Luger. Kind of makes it breath.
Hope this helped, Ron
